lie detection

Lie Detection

Lie detection, is deception detection test based on the fact that ‘one lie is enough to question all truths’ which measures the physiological changes in the body to differentiate between truths and lies. It is conducted based on the principle that when a person is lying, tends to become nervous and thus there will be some physiological and psychological changes in the body. Our experts use various techniques such as voice polygraph, micro expressions and content analysis to detect lies, extract hidden/repressed knowledge about a fact and (or) verify the truth.

“There is nothing as deceptive as an obvious fact” – Arthur Conan Doyle

Lie detection has various techniques and we at Clue4 Evidence Forensic Lab have been using Voice Polygraph in combination with Micro Expressions to identify the deception and have submitted our reports in various investigations and by the order of Courts.

Voice Polygraphs

Lie detection: Polygraphs popularly referred to as a lie detector, when the polygraph test starts, three or four simple questions are asked to establish the norms for the person's signals. Then the real questions being tested by the polygraph are asked. Throughout questioning, all of the person's signals are recorded on the moving paper. Both during and after the test, a polygraph examiner can look at the graphs and can see whether the vital signs changed significantly on any of the questions. In general, a significant change (such as a faster heart rate, higher blood pressure, increased perspiration) indicates that the person is lying.

Polygraphs are used as an interrogation/investigation tool with criminal suspects/candidates for sensitive public or private sector employment/marital character check. When a person takes a polygraph test, four to six sensors are attached to him. A polygraph is a machine in which the multiple ("poly") signals from the sensors are recorded on a single strip of moving paper ("graph”)

It could also explain which parts of the brain are active when subjects use artificial memories. This indicates that deception may involve inhibition of truthful responses (truth verification)

Various analysis methods are used by the forensic experts to check the loyalty or trustworthiness of a person:

    LIE DETECTION:
It is referred as deception detection or polygraph test which uses questioning techniques along with technology that records all the physiological functions to ascertain truth and falsehood in response.

    CVSA:
CVSA is computerized voice stress analyzer in which the analysis of voice is done to check the loyalty of a person. (show more)In this technique the response of the subject is analysed and captured by the expert and on that basis the opinion was made. Incorporates CVSA is used to check the loyalty of the employ as it is more portable than polygraph kit.

    MICRO EXPRESSION:
Micro expressions are the involuntary facial expressions which are shown on the face of humans according to their emotions. These will occur when a person consciously tries to hide his emotion or sometimes when they don’t have idea of how to react in that situation. (show more) It expresses these universal emotions: disgust, anger, fear, sadness, happiness, contempt, surprise, amusement, embarrassment, anxiety, guilt, pride, relief, contentment, pleasure, and shame. These expressions are very brief in duration which lasts only  1⁄25 to  1⁄15 of a second. And these expressions are best noticed on: 1. Eyes- whenever a person is feeling negative, offensive, disgust, happy then these emotions can first seen in the eye. 2. Lips- it shows emotions regarding tension, frustration or disapproval. 3. Nose- when a person is experiencing anger or displeasure then they flare their nostrils and by that their emotions can be judged. 4. Eye brows- movement in eyebrows can shows the emotions like frustration, surprise, anger and sadness. So by analyzing these micro expressions one can check people’s unsaid words and their loyalty can also be determined by it.

    BODY LANGUAGE:
Body language is analyzing all the non-verbal behavior of the interviewing person in which the person is observed by one or more cameras in which his complete body movement including from head to toe is analysed and observed. And this is also helpful in loyalty check as sometimes when the person tries to fake the situation out then his body movement sometimes says the truth.
